Three guesses which 5% pay 53% of the Taxes.

A lot of people think I am liberal because I support what could be considered some pretty liberal social policies.

But when push comes to shove, its all about the money, honey.

Maybe you can guess why it gets under my skin when I hear this statement:

“If the rich only paid their fair share in taxes...”

I have news for you people. The rich pay the lions share of the taxes. The bottom half of the income earners pay about 4%.

The rich are in the highest tax bracket, with a combined state and federal tax rate of 35%, while the poor only pay around 15%.

But having a graduated income tax is debatably fair. You don’t want to force the impoverished too far into the red, it just becomes a drain on the rest of us.

But to say the rich don’t pay their fair share in taxes?

Who do you think is paying luxury taxes, dividend taxes, property taxes, personal property taxes for businesses, inheritance and gift taxes, estate taxes, capital gains taxes, utility taxes...

That means that if you earned a dollar, after income taxes, about $0.75 would be left. Lets say you die and that .75 goes into probate. The state takes half. You now son has about $0.38. Lets say he wants to purchase a piece of property, and sell it later at a nominal gain (like, he made more actual one dollar bills) but suffered a real loss (because the purchasing power of the dollar has dropped). The state will tax that “gain”.

And you want to tax them more?

Maybe instead of having a 50% death tax, we should be more concerned with properly spending the money we’ve already got.

So, fuck off you lazy hippies.

If you want my money, put down the bong, put on an apron, and come work for it.
