...unless we want to blow up some arabs.

The draft. They’re talking about reinstating it, only this time, they are reworking it so that women can [have to] go too. Hey, that’s fair.

What’s not fair is that school isn’t an excuse. Oh, sorry kids, trying to better yourself by getting a higher education just isn’t gonna cut it in the new millennium.

Gad-zooks!!!

Aside from how you feel about the war, doesn’t it seem strange to you that America,...AMERICA of all places, can force you to give up your education and attempt at bettering your life to force you to fight for a cause you may or may not agree with in a nation you invaded under what is considered questionable pretenses at best.

Doesn’t that seem to go against everything this nation stands for. Its forced labour. Cloaked in what is probably a lie. If you don’t serve or you doge, you go to jail. End of story. Just because they pay you it doesn’t mean you have any sort of real choice about how you can spend your time either (As a preemptive argument for all you jack holes out there, jail is the illusion of choice. If there was a real choice, you could choose to, uhh, I dunno, stay at home).

And we haven’t forced people to work for decades. That said, it seems extra strange that we would force people to work when the job entails putting their lives on the line. That’s like the state saying,

“Well, its too expensive to build machines to build sky scrapers, you, over there, you look like you have nothing better to do since you’re young. You go build it. Here is a helmet and a safety rope you can tie around your neck. Have fun kidd-o."

"Oh yeah, and before I forget, Go America!!!”

Not going to war doesn’t hurt anybody. We have a standing army all of whom enlisted by their own volition. If we need more soldiers, we could incentivize more to fight by raising the wages of those enlisted. And hey, if you can’t get the gullible young voters of your nation to agree to fight for your noble cause by waving opportunity and money in their faces, perhaps you shouldn’t be at war.

Bottom line, I’m not being un-American by resenting the draft, the state is being inconsistent by reinstating it.
